2009 - A Year in Review

It's been quite a year, indeed.

  • January - We began casting and rehearsing four short plays. The Balagula Theatre Company hosts SCAPA recital.
  • February - "Personals" was performed for our Valentine's day audiences.
  • March - The Balagula Theatre played host to the regional Drama/Comedy awards competition for the National Society of Arts and Letters Kentucky Chapter. We also developed our educational program, The Balagula Studio, and began student enrollment. Classes for our first beginners class were held in Props Gallery through the month of April.
  • April - The Balagula Studio held two Improv Workshops, and finished its first set of classes with a student recital which was held in Props Gallery. The Balagula Theatre began rehearsing the revival of "Some Things You Need To Know Before The World Ends (A Final Evening with the Illuminati)
  • May - The Balagula Theatre Company hosts second SCAPA recital. "Illuminati" went into production before an audience for 10 performances.
  • June - The decision was made to mount our first full season of plays. The Balagula Studio began an 8 week course, Acting II
  • July - The final scripts were decided upon. A casting call was held for Season Auditions in search of the Balaguligan team for 2009 - 2010. Season Tickets became available for the first time at the Balagula Theatre Company.
  • August - We began our 8 week rehearsal process in 3 separate works by Samuel Beckett (Play, Endgame, & Not I)
    An expose of The Balagula Theatre Company aired on National Public Radio.
    Balagula Hosts SCAPA's production of "Complete Works of Williams Shakespeare (Abridged).
  • September - "B" For Beckett opens to audiences and runs for eight performances, with conjoined art exhibit.
  • October - The Balagula Theatre Company obtains a new rehearsal space and promptly begins rehearsals of Eugene Ionesco's "The Bald Soprano". The Balagula Theatre hosts the Imperial Court of Kentucky's production of "The Laramie Project".
  • November - "The Bald Soprano" opens to audiences and runs for eight performances, with conjoined art exhibit. The theatre holds it's first opening night reception. Cast and Crew members from "The Bald Soprano" are invited to speak with students at Sayre School. The Balagula Theatre Company competes for the first time in the annual Kentucky Theatre Association's Regional Theatre Competition and wins five awards; Best Performance, Best Director(s), Best Actor, Best Lighting, and Best Set Design. The Balagula Studio begins it's "Theatre for Younglings" sessions in cooperation with Central Christian Church.
  • December - Received a grant from the W. Paul and Lucille Caudill Little Foundation, funding four productions in 2010, and expand our outreach and educational programs
