Balagula Theatre Audition Workshops:

Vanessa Becker

Vanessa Becker, a recent Lexington transplant and Balagula’s Education and Outreach Coordinator, spent ten years as the Education Director and Resident Director/ Actor for the Phoenix Theatre in Columbus Ohio. Ms. Becker has spent the past twelve years developing and implementing Drama programs for workshops, camps, classes and in school residencies for students of all ages and levels. She is also an acclaimed director, actor and choreographer, who has been involved in over sixty productions in Columbus, Dayton, and Chicago since earning her B.F.A. in Acting at Wright State University. Since moving to Lexington, Vanessa has appeared as Mrs. Martin in The Bald Soprano with Balagula and will soon be appearing as the Warden in Lexington Children’s Theatre production of Holes. Having been “on both sides of the table” for auditions such as the S.E.T.C. Auditions, Ms. Becker understands the challenges actors face when preparing a solid audition as well as what the directors are looking for.

Do you have an important audition coming up? Are you ready? Whether you are auditioning for a college theatre program, summer conservatory such as the Governor’s School for the Arts, Summer Stock, S.E.T.C. or just want to get better at community auditions, the best way to succeed is to be prepared! Join Vanessa Becker, Balagula Theatre’s new Education and Outreach Coordinator, and other local professionals as we work together to prepare you for success. Students will not only be coached on their material, but also learn about proper audition etiquette, and have the opportunity to share their pieces in front of an audience. For our beginner workshop, we will also cover how to choose appropriate audition material.
